A 1 Day Interactive activity for LocalGov Digital Transformation Managers that will focus on the following:

  • Opportunities for Yorkshire & the Humber to collaborate on projects applicable for Digital Declaration Fund monies
  • LocalGov as a Platform: how can Local Gov more away from a “Point Solution” strategy towards a modular “Platform”
  • The changes in the eligibility for Blue Badges, now extended to those with “Hidden” disabilities. How does this effect the Digital offering

Local Digital Declaration & Fund

The government made a “digital pledge” backed by £7.5 million of government funding in July 2018 to help councils transform their digital services in line with the Local Digital Declaration. Local Government Minister Rishi Sunak announced the initiative to help change the way councils invest in technology, share expertise and ensure members of the public are receiving the best quality digital services.

This funding, available for the financial years 2018/19 to 2019/20, will be split into 2 streams:

  • Exemplar Projects
  • Digital Skills Training

At the event, we will have an open discussion & roundtables on potential projects and activities taking place in Yorkshire & the Humber that might be able to access the Fund

Local Government as a Platform

Departmental silos, vertically focused business processes and inflexible outdated systems have left Local Government with complex, fragmented and expensive architecture that cannot respond to evolving user and business needs

Local Government as a Platform makes it easy to assemble digital services out of shared components, eg service patterns, products, data and a joined up approach to hosting. This frees service teams across government to spend their time on designing high quality, straightforward user-friendly services, rather than starting from scratch.

Through implementing a LGaaP strategy, the role of local government changes from directly providing services, and directly commissioning services to providing ways for demand to be aggregated and made visible to the market, and ways for the market to develop and provide services to people.”At the event, we will look at how an LGaaP strategy can be put in place, the barriers and how they might be overcome

Digital Blue Badges

With the criteria for Blue Badge eligibility changing to cover “Hidden Illnesses” and these changes coming into force in January 2019 along with the Department for Transport working on the Blue Badge Application Form project, Local Authorities are frantically looking to to design/build/procure their own system that will assess applications. We’ll be looking to share some of what is out in the market to address the change and to provide a digital solution for the Blue Badge service

Lunch & refreshments will be provided
