Making the Pause Count: DDaT Readiness for Local Government Reorganisation

A pause isn’t a stop.

For councils across England, LGR proposals are on hold while central government decides what happens next. Every council in that position faces the same choice: wait or get ready.

Every month spent waiting is a month that will be missing from the timeline later. And when decisions come, the timeline to vesting day won’t get any longer to make up for it.

Plenty of Digital, Data and Technology work makes sense whatever shape reorganisation finally takes:

Mapping how services actually work today, across every council
Building a clear picture of systems, contracts, end dates and dependencies
Getting data in order, so it can be trusted, shared and migrated
Agreeing information governance groundwork between councils
Understanding what must be safe, secure and legal on Day 1
Taking stock of how residents reach councils now, and how that could work in future

None of this depends on knowing the final boundaries. All of it will be needed when they’re known.

Today’s programme is built around that work.
